| In assembly I asked the children (aged about five to nine) when they felt close to God. (I didn't try to explain what this might mean.) The spontaneous answers included:
When I'm in bed (cosy; safe and protected)
Outside (beauty and liveliness)
In church (because God knows that I'm there)
When I'm upset (God understands)
On a particular cushion at home (feeling secure)
In inspiring or peaceful surroundings we have a sense that things are right.
