The aftermath

Friday 27th September 2013
A lovely autumn day as we went around dismantling things in church, returning borrowed display boards to school by horsebox, clearing out quill pens and projector screen and coffee things.

Bereft

Thursday 26th September 2013
I have lived with the Lindisfarne Gospels for a week
and now this amazing book has gone.

Manuscripts that changed the world

Wednesday 25th September 2013
The frontal currently on the altar at St Cuthbert's Bellingham shows St Cuthbert's cross and a Celtic weave design.
It was lovely to gather here for Morning Prayer with the Methodist minister and her husband as well as my Anglican colleague.  Yesterday it had been the Roman Catholic priest with a friend who joined me for Evening Prayer.
After spending some time setting up features of the Lindisfarne Gospels display that had been put away overnight, I went to Otterburn to take the Wednesday morning Communion service.  Back to Bellingham just in time for a very interesting talk from the Assistant Director of Bede's World Museum about the astonishing sophistication and influence of the scholarship that came out of Northumbria 1300 years ago.
I returned to church to welcome the next visiting school.
In the evening we gathered for a Book Group which ranged over topics stimulated by books which ranged from The Life of Pi to Holocaust and conversion experience.

More schools and good questions

Tuesday 24th September 2013  [More pictures on Events page]

"What order do the Gospels come in?"  "Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, bless the bed I lie upon"  Or instead of that bedtime prayer, you can have the morning version: "Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, hold my horse while I get on!"

Admiring the manuscript

Illuminating the wildcat

"Why are the Gospels so important?"       Because they tell the story of the life, death and resurrection of Jesus, which Christians believe is the story which makes the best sense of life, showing that love is stronger than death.

Lindisfarne Gospels/Harvest/wedding

Friday 20th September 2013
Stopping my car to take this picture disturbed the nearer bull who had been sleeping peacefully with his head on the other one's shoulder.
I picked up display boards from Elsdon and returned to Bellingham to continue with the setting up of the Lindisfarne Gospels exhibition.  The facsimile was delivered from Woodhorn.  I went off the Rochester to conduct a wedding rehearsal whilst others sorted out the powerpoint and music CD.  Back for Evening Prayer and off to the Harvest Supper arranged by the three Churches (Methodist/URC, Roman Catholic and Anglican) for the local community.  This year it was the turn of the MURC to decorate the hall, the RC's to organise the food and the C of E to devise some entertainment.  All went well including the lad doing some traditional clog dancing:
