The chainsaw sculptured Mary, Joseph, donkey and baby in the manger stand outside St Cuthbert's church Bellingham from Christmas Eve till Candlemas (2nd February).  Then follows the challenge of finding strong men to load them up to return to storage...

St Valentine's Day funeral

Lovely to come out of St Peter's church Falstone to see snowdrops in the sun after the funeral of an eighty-year-old who had a loving marriage from 1959 till this month...a life celebrated in church by 92 people in the congregation.

 Bellingham has been living for a month with the bridge over the North Tyne obstructed by machinery used in repair work.  The men have been kind and courteous and very understanding towards people walking or travelling on horses or walking frames: they have provided a shuttle service to the point of obstruction for the disabled who can then board the bus just on the other side of the machinery:
